A little about us
Mentone is an unincorporated community filled with many generations of families who take pride in their roots. We boast approximately 6.2 square miles of rural area with an elevation of 1,650. We have approximately 9,847 residents as of the 2020 statistics.
For travelers, Mentone is a waypoint or a "Gateway" when heading to and from the San Bernardino mountains and ski resorts.
The Mentone Chamber is a 501(c)(6) and is dedicated to promote our local businesses and to ensure that we are a desirable place to live.
Citizens of Mentone Empowered Together (C.O.M.E.T.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes our community and its unique attractions, and strives to maintain our way of living. We meet the last Tuesday of each month at 7p.m.

Meet at 7 a.m. at the corner of Wabash / Mentone on the NE corner. If this is your first time please come 15 minutes early to watch a safety video. Teens under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
California Coastal Clean-Up

This is one of the simplest ways to help out our cause. This is an easy and efficient way of contributing to the great work we do at Mentone Chamber of Commerce.
Please stop by, I'm told we may have some special guests helping today sent by Assemblyman Ramos.
If you have any questions feel free to contact us at 909-362-7860. We will begin at 7:00 a.m. at 1221 Opal St. This is the Hovey Tile Company location. If this is your first time, please come 15 minutes early to watch a CalTrans safety video. Teens under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Come see what Mentone has to offer in terms of living, whether you are looking for that forever home, condo, or simply looking for an apartment. Mentone has many areas in our small community that are affordable and close to retail shopping in the Mountain Grove and Citrus Plazas. We have several bus stops that will take you to Redlands, Yucaipa or San Bernardino.
Sun Chase HOA
The Sun Chase Community is a suburban neighborhood located in Mentone. These homes are single family homes built from 1987-2020. Surrounding streets include Nice Ave, Agate Ave, Colton Ave, and Beryl Ave.
These homes are located within the Redlands School District and close to the Citrus and Mountain Grove shopping centers.
The Marabellas Condos are located in the heart of Mentone at 1365 Crafton Ave. Directly across the street is Mentone Elementary School and just minutes away from Crafton Community College and Redlands University.

Things to Do in Mentone
Hiking / Biking
Mentone has several trails including:
Mentone Loop that is great for hiking or biking with friends or family.
Morton Peak Fire Lookout located at 34800 Morton Ridge Trail in Mentone
Crafton Hills Open Space Preserve located at 33787 Crafton Hills Ridge Trail
Zanja Peak located at Zanja Peak Dump Trail in Mentone and there is a Zanja
Peak trail off of Oak Glen Rd in Yucaipa.

This is a small creek that runs from Big Bear down to Mill Creek and then through Mentone on the South side of the Hwy 38, then crosses over to the North side. You can park your vehicle approximately 1-2 miles east of Bryant Street and walk down to the creek. There is also swimming and fishing on the north side of Hwy 38. Please note, when leaving pick up your trash. These areas are small gems that we all want to enjoy for years to come.

1862-1897 Where it all began
Myron Crafts & his family establish Crafton
1873 Mrs. Crafts open "The Retreat" boarding
1886 The Mentone Company, a subsidiary of the Santa Fe Railroad, purchase 3,000 acres for a town site
1887 Town site is laid out. Name comes from French Riviera resort. East-West streets named after cities on the riviera, North-South streets named after semi-previous stones.
1888 William John Tench of NY is hired by the railroad as first real estate agent. Mentone Sandstone Co. is established.
1891 Mentone Hotel built in the style of Hotel Del Coronado on east side of Opal Ave.
1892 Santa Fe's kite-shaped track begins operating eight trains a day between Los Angeles and Mentone. Mentone Community Church is built. Redlands Light & Power takes most of Mentone water.
1897 Mentone Hotel is purchased by Trinity Episcopal Church in Redlands and turned into a sanitarium for tuberculosis patients.
1903-1996 Mentone evolving
1903 Tench builds big reservoir. Wells, reservoir and water system eventually sold to the City of Redlands.
1906 Mentone Heights Orange Company is established.
1916 Great flood brings even more boulders into town.
1917 Mentone Hotel, once the town's crowning glory, is torn down.
1940 Victorian-Style Mentone Depot is torn down; replaced with another, smaller depot.
1946 Universal Sanitary, later Universal Rundle, toilet pottery plant dedicated at north end of Opal Ave. Closes 30 years later.
Around 1950 Grand Central Rocket, makers of jet fuel, opens at Crafton and Madeira Avenue. It later becomes Lockheed Jet Propulsion and closes in the mid '70's. (annexed by Redlands)
1996 East Valley High School under construction on Colton Ave.
2000-2020 Modern with small-town feel
